Will discuss what FBI forensic accountants do, the types of financial data that FBI intelligence analysts extract from cases and evidence, how SARs and supporting docs help support investigation and prosecution, and how accountants and analysts work together.

Paul Toepher came into the FBI’s Laboratory Division in 2007 as a forensic chemist. In 2013, he transferred to Cincinnati Division, and serves as the division’s senior intelligence analyst for complex financial crimes. Toepher also teaches open source intel as an adjunct instructor for the FBI Training Division.

10:30 to 11:45 Mike McClelland, United States Postal Inspection Service
Inspector McClelland will discuss current trends in mail fraud that his agency is currently encountering and investigating, to include schemes targeting the elderly.

Mike McClelland has been a U.S. Postal Inspector for approximately 2 ½ years. Part of his responsibilities as an Inspector involve investigating various types of mail fraud, to include identity theft, bank fraud, credit card fraud, lottery schemes, etc. Prior to that, McClelland was a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service for approximately 14 years. His responsibilities there involved protection and working a variety of case types, including identity theft, bank fraud, wire fraud, access device fraud, and threats.
